Hafa Adai, Tirow, and Welcome to the 2006 Micronesian Games website!
The Games, held every four years, are the Micronesian region's premier
international sporting event. Athletes, coaches, and officials from Palau,
Guam, the four states of Micronesia, the Marshall Islands, Kiribati, and
Nauru, as well as the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas, will be in
Saipan June 23 through July 2 for this festival of sport.
This website will keep you up to date on what you want to know about the
Games and the men and women who participate in them. We hope that you can
join us here in Saipan for the Games, but whether you can or cannot, we hope
that you will be a part of them right here.
Cordially,
Rex
Rex Palacios, Chairman

The Micronesian Games were first
held in 1969 in Saipan, the capital
of the Northern Marianas. The second
games were scheduled to be held in
1972 but never took place. In a
record span, the second games were
not held until 21 years later in
1990. The Micronesian Games are
organized for the small islands and
territories of the Northern Pacific
such as Guam, Northern Marianas,
Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau,
Pohnpei, Chuuk and Kosrae. The games
feature traditional events like
track and field, swimming and
basketball, but also some of the
more unique events in sports
including a spearfishing contest,
coconut tree climbing and coconut
husking. |
